Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are living out their love story, but they have a special someone to thank for bringing them together: her mother, Andrea Swift.
In Friday's (December 19) episode of the End of an Era docuseries, the Life of a Showgirl singer and her mother recalled how Andrea encouraged her daughter to connect with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end after his comments about failing to meet her during an Eras Tour stop and give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number. When Andrea learned of his efforts, she called her cousin, a fan of the NFL team, to learn more about him, per People.
"She goes, 'Oh my God, he is the nicest guy! And he really loves his mom.' And I went, 'Ding, ding, ding, ding,'" Andrea said. "And then I said, 'Now, how in the world am I going to get her to meet him?'"
Andrea even noted that Kelce's idea to bring the friendship bracelet to Swift "said a lot" about him because "it was so earnest."
"I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world that he came to your show, he brought you something from your world... I liked it," she said.
Andrea knew it would be a bit difficult to get her daughter interested in the "really cute" football player given her dating history had leaned "very non-athlete." Nevertheless, she persisted.
"So you call me with this tone of, 'Hey, I know you're not gonna react well to this, but there's a guy...,'" Swift recalled. "You said something to the effect of, 'You gotta start doing something different."
And the rest was history. Swift and Kelce eventually met and sparked a romance, dating for two years before he got down on one knee and proposed. They announced their engagement on August 26, telling fans, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," and sharing sweet photos from the proposal.
The six-part docuseries The End of an Era airs new episodes on Fridays on Disney+.
