The Something Club Drop New Single “You’re Weird”

Rising genre-bending duo The Something Club has just released their highly anticipated single, “You’re Weird,” a bright and funky celebration of individuality and unfiltered joy. The track marks the beginning of a new creative chapter for the pair, leading into their debut album “One Day I’ll Die.”

Formed at Toronto’s Harris Institute, The Something Club was born out of an unexpected partnership between two students who quickly discovered a shared love for experimentation. “We were paired up in a songwriting class and immediately found this easy chemistry,” the duo recalls. “Hailey’s background in dance music and theatrical performance meshed perfectly with Shayne’s funk, R&B, and house roots. It became this playground for us to explore everything that felt new, weird, and exciting.”

Their new single “You’re Weird” exemplifies that approach. The song began as an eight-bar loop created by Shayne that instantly sparked laughter and inspiration. “It had this silly, infectious energy,” they explain. “We just followed where it took us, and it evolved into something that perfectly captures our creative spirit.”

Blending the nostalgia of disco and funk with modern production, “You’re Weird” draws inspiration from icons like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson, alongside innovators such as Daft Punk and Kaytranada. The resulting sound is a hybrid of groove, playfulness, and pure happiness.

“We wanted to make something fun,” The Something Club says. “A yell-in-your-car, dance-in-your-kitchen kind of song. It’s about that wild happiness you can’t contain and the kind that makes you feel alive.”

Beyond its upbeat surface, “You’re Weird” carries a meaningful message about authenticity in a culture often dominated by perfectionism and conformity. “We live in a world that’s afraid of being cringy,” the duo explains. “This song is our way of saying it’s okay to be different and to embrace the quirks, laughter, and awkwardness. That’s where real connection happens.”

As the first of five singles leading up to “One Day I’ll Die,” the release introduces listeners to the duo’s universe of creativity that has no limits, and self-expression reigns supreme. “This single sets the tone for everything that’s coming next,” they say.

“You’re Weird” is available now on all streaming platforms.
