Michael Keaton Mourns 'Beetlejuice' Costar Catherine O'Hara: 'True Friend'

Michael Keaton shared a touching tribute to his friend and Beetlejuice costar Catherine O'Hara after her sudden death at 71.

After news broke on Friday (January 30) that O'Hara has passed away after a brief illness, the Birdman actor mourned his longtime friend in a heartfelt post on Instagram. The actors starred in the original 1988 horror comedy and reunited for its 2024 sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, alongside returning star Winona Ryder and new addition Jenna Ortega, but their working relationship also extended to 1994's The Paper and 2005's Game 6, Today reports.

"We go back before the first Beetlejuice. She's been my pretend wife, my pretend nemesis and my real life, true friend," he wrote in the caption. "This one hurts. Man am I gonna miss her."

Keaton added that he was keeping the Schitt's Creek star's family in this thoughts, including her husband Bo Welch and their sons Matthew and Luke, per People. Their Beetlejuice Beetlejuice costar Justin Theroux also honored O'Hara in his own Instagram post, sharing a photo of an empty chair on set emblazoned with her name and writing, "Oh Catherine. You will be so so missed."

O'Hara's Home Alone costar and on-screen son Macaulay Culkin also penned his own heartbreaking tribute to the late actress, admitting, "I thought we had time. I wanted more."

TMZ reported on Friday that O'Hara had passed away, and her manager later confirmed the news to People; however, as of Friday, her cause of death has not been revealed.
