Adam Devine was hit by a cement truck as a child and was told decades later that injuries he sustained from the incident might be killing him.
The Pitch Perfect star opened up about his health in a recent interview, citing "so much pain," per Entertainment Weekly. Devine revealed that he's undergone 25 surgeries for his groin, hip ligament, and back, to name only a few, all related to the horrifying moment he was struck by the truck at age 11.
"They don't really know. I was having spasms all over. And I still kind of do. For a while, they told me I was dying. Within this last year, they told me that. They told me I have this disease called Stiff Person Syndrome, and that's when your muscles get so tight that you can no longer walk. You can no longer move, and then your heart will stop beating."
Six months later, he went to see a doctor who told him that he might not be suffering from the terrifying condition after all.
"He was like, 'You don't have it. You do not have it. This is from your accident when you were a child. The spasms are a little unexplainable, but it could just be that your body got so tight it doesn't know what to do with itself.'"
In 2016, the beloved comedian told Entertainment Weekly that he was leaving a store when he was 11 years old, and his friends told him to hurry up and cross the street on his bike. Assuming they meant "the coast is clear," Devine took off across the street only to be hit by a cement truck
"They say the reason I lived was the bike took the hit first. I still slid 500 feet. Picked me up under the first two wheels and then spit me out."
