A man from Orange charged with kidnaping a Beaumont attorney appeared in a Beaumont federal courtroom yesterday. 79-year old Putnam Richardson is accused of kidnapping Mel Shelander from his Beaumont office. Shelander was found chained inside a shed at Putman’s home in Orange. Putman was demanding a $1 million ransom from Shelander’s family. If convicted, Putman faces up to life in prison.
