Fifth Grade Girl Saves Best Friend's Life With Heimlich Maneuver

Fifth-graders Sabrina Kadow and Kylie Moorman have been best friends for a long time, but they took their friendship to a whole new level when Kylie potentially saved Sabrina’s life by using the Heimlich maneuver.

Walking down the stairs of their school at the end of the school day with a group of friends, Sabrina popped a mint into her mouth. Moments later, someone made her laugh and she swallowed the mint and began coughing and choking.

That’s when Kylie noticed her best friend turning bright red and saw she was having a tough time breathing.

She ran over, took Sabrina’s backpack off and administered the Heimlich maneuver.

The girls ended up being honored at a local city council meeting with a certificate from the police chief and mayor – as well as being honored at a school board meeting.

The incident definitely brought the two friends even closer together, and also raised awareness about safety and first aid at their school.
