E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Hit Theaters 36 Years Ago Today

Growing up in Orange, Tx. in the 70's & 80's my parents use to be a part of the Bowling league(s) at the Orange Bowling Alley. It seemed like we were there almost every night of the week, my grandmother worked there in the restaurant. My sister and I were even part of the Sanders Bowling Legacy and were on the kids bowling league and we bowled every Saturday morning from the time I was 5 til I was 18. The Cinema I & II is a block away, about a 2 min walk from the bowling alley. Back in the 80's parents felt comfortable letting their kids walk the neighborhood. So it was not a big deal when my parents gave me, a 9 yr old, money and while they bowled on one of their league nights, I walked down to the Cinema and watched E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. There were 2 things I walked away from that movie thinking. 1 WHAT AN AMAZING MOVIE!! And then 2 the impact on the audience walking out of the theater. It was very emotional and impacted me in a positive way. As I was walking back towards the bowling alley there was a mom and her kids walking back to their car near me and her daughter was crying and yelling "I wanna take E.T. home!!!!" and at that moment, as a 9 yr old, I realized that I wanted to be a part of something that moved people and gave them joy like that and the joy I experienced. 8 years later I began a career in radio, then subsequently a career DJ's weddings and events. Music has always been huge in my life and now I get to make a living making others happy with the power of music. I've always hoped that my career in music has given and does give people that same kind of happiness.
