Normani Reveals A Possible Collaboration On Her Debut Album

Normani's first hit single "Motivation" has been everywhere since it dropped in August.

Her solo career is really taking off, especially after her first live performance of "Motivation" at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. Normani stopped by the studio to discuss her success and what is to come for her.

Normani says that the moments before "Motivation" was released was very "nerve-wrecking" because "this was the first time that the world was going to get a real sense of who Normani was. No feature, nobody else, connector affiliated with the record. That it was just me. Which is why it was important for me to also put the video out because I wanted to show people what I had been waiting for. Like, I had been waiting for a record with very, very high-energy, something up-beat, up-tempo that I could dance to... This was the moment that I was like I have to."

Normani was rehearsing and filming the "Motivation" video all while in the middle of touring with Ariana Grande as her opening act on her "Sweetener World Tour." Normani says having the chance to be with Ariana Grande on tour was "so dope." She says that "just the fact that she trust me with her crowd... the intimate moments that me and Ari also had, like, she's shown her support tremendously." Ariana Grande co-wrote "Motivation," being the first song Grande wrote for another artist.

Currently, Normani is halfway done with her debut album. She states that what she wanted ultimately for this album was being able to "have direction. trying new things, and not being afraid to tap into different things... To make sure that by the end of this process, [she] knew that [she] tried any and everything." We also chatted with Normani about any collaborations featured on her debut album. We had to ask for a hint, so we asked her to name five names, four that are fake and one that is a definite collab on the album. She named Ariana Grande, Rosalía, Nicki Minaj, Summer Walker, and J. Cole. Though, she says "I probably gave you more."

We cannot wait for Normani's upcoming album which is expected to release in 2020. We are so excited to hear the music that she has been working hard on!
