Big Complaints about McDonald's New Paper Straws

McDonald’s paper straws can’t be recycled: McDonald’s is the latest company trying to go eco-friendly when it comes to straws, but it turns out they are failing.

The fast food giant eliminated plastic straws in their UK locations last year, replacing them with paper straws, that customers seem to hate. Many complained that the fell apart too easily, which caused McDonald’s to strengthen the straws, but the kicker is, those straws are now not recyclable, while the original plastic ones were “100 percent recyclable.”

The company told the BBC regarding the paper straws, “their current thickness makes it difficult for them to be processed by our waste solution providers,” although they did add, “This waste from our restaurants does not go to landfill, but is used to generate energy.”
