Banana Duct-Taped To A Wall Sells For $120,000

Is that a banana on your wall, or are you just happy to fork over $120,000? Last week, an actual banana that was affixed to a wall with a piece of gray duct tape reportedly sold at Miami's Art Basel fair for that six-figure amount.

Art Basel founder Emmanuel Perrotin says the piece--created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and aptly titled "The Comedian"--is meant to "force us to question how value is placed on material goods."

Meanwhile, after an art collector purchased the piece, a performance artist named David Datuna apparently found the work so "a-peeling" that he walked over to it and ate the banana.

Luckily, as French art gallery owner Lucien Terras explained to the Miami Herald, "He did not destroy the art work. The banana is the idea."

One remaining edition of "The Comedian" was expected to fetch as much as $150,000.
