Fergie Breaks Silence On NBA All-Star National Anthem: 'I Tried My Best'

Fergie may have appeared oblivious to the reaction during her botched national anthem performance at Sunday night's (February 18) NBA All-Star Game, but the pop star is well aware of the reception now and broke her silence on the controversy.

In a statement, which was released on Monday via TMZ, the star stood by her love for the country but admitted that her rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" didn't deliver as she would have liked. "I've always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA," she said in the statement. "I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best."

Despite the efforts, the performance had the crowd at the 67th edition of the NBA's annual showcase including, Draymond Green and Jimmy Kimmel, laughing at the Black Eyed Peas frontwoman. To be fair, if Fergie had not opted for her specialty version of the patriotic ode, she would have done a little better.
